Just below Highcliffe Castle in Dorset is a part sandy, part pebble beach. Around this time last year I was on a beach in The Algarve under a burning hot sun! This year I'm enjoying the rainy British summertime.

Another snap from last year, we went on a short walk from Carvoeiro where we were staying along the clifftops and came across this lighthouse. It was a somewhat challenging walk in the heat, but one of the best walks we went on to overlook the sea.

Another photo of Maisie today. You can see she is now full size and a striking black cat with gorgeous amber eyes. She is a very lucky cat as the house we rent has an amazing garden area for her to explore and play in.

Maisie is now 19 months old and a content, playful and sprightly young cat. She may be catching mice now and again (and bringing them in for playing with unfortunately), but she still loves to lie on the bed and will let me cuddle her quite happily. This is a selfie I took of us a few days ago with me as big spoon.

I saw this beautiful red rose in the garden a few days ago perfectly lit by the evening sun. I ran into the house and grabbed my camera. The orange hue in the image is all created by the amazing sunlight.

I took this with my zoom lens as I didn't have my macro and the detail I picked up was great. I shot with approximately a 1.3x zoom. The colours were played up in editing and I also applied a gaussian blur with a soft light filter in Photoshop. I'm pleased with this.

My brother in the sea at Hastings a few summer's ago. I need to get out and take some fresh pictures, but luckily I have a bit of a back catalogue of some half decent images. The over -exposure and filtering create a fresh look that I actually like about this photo.

As you can see, Poole quay was very fruitful for photos. I like the composition of the people here with the young woman as a focal point. I played with colour to add to the thematic elements of the image.

This wall was a great subject and one of those images that comes already composed for you. I did have a shot of a chap walking by, but he actually took away from the disturbing features of the wall. The juxtaposition of the graffiti, rusting and the flowers looks great.

Taken in Poole High Street where the railway track crosses through the town.The sky is a bit bleak, but I didn't want to Photoshop a new one in. I quite like the colours and contrast I got here, but I'd have liked a willing model to add something more interesting to the shot.
