Review: By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder

You might have seen some months ago that I was pining over By Terry's Hyaluronic Hydra Powder, a cult face powder which is ridiculously expensive, but gets some out-of-this-world reviews.

So yes, stating the obvious, I caved in and shelled out on this 'dream product', and I wanted to give a review, after having been using it for the last month or so.

The Hyaluronic Hydra Powder comes with the sort of claims that make any dry-skinned gal stop what they're doing and sit to attention. Phrases like 'banishes pores and fine lines', 'protects', 'prevents shine without drying' all made my little ears prick up. When you've got dry skin (and you're no longer a twenty-something), you don't want to cake your face in a powder that turns your face into even more of a desert than it already is. But also, if you're like me, you know you need to keep that shine at bay, somehow!

So, let's start with the texture:

This light, fine powder is white and adheres well to the skin. At first, on darker skintones it may appear too white, but I'm told this soon goes away. The minute silica beads in the formulation help to smooth uneven texture and give the face a really uniform look when worn over foundation.

Claims aside, I was instantly wowed by this product. My skin looked pretty darn good when looking close in the mirror. It really does live up to its reputation of making skin look amazing and giving a soft, blurring effect to areas of imperfection.

After you get used to wearing it, the 'wow' effect does wear off in the sense that you forget how other powders perform compared to this one. But writing this now, I have to say that this is the only powder I've wanted to use since I bought it (perhaps with the exception of the Nars pressed powder I own).

The mattifying effect is not a chalky, flat kind of matte. It's fairly close to the way the Nars Light Reflecting powder gives a 'glow' to the skin, whilst taking away shine, however the By Terry is less glowy and more natural. Also, your skin does not start to feel dry throughout the day, even when you re-apply it. I prefer the Nars for travel as this powder has the potential to cause a dust storm; however I prefer this one for everyday use.

Now, to address the price, it is eye-wateringly expensive in my opinion (click here if you want to check it out!). It is one of those investment products that, if you have the funds, may be worth looking into; however, it is not a product I could re-purchase more than once every year or even two. For a treat, it really does make me feel great about my skin, and that's where I feel it is worth it.

So if you are in the market for a loose powder, this is probably up there with the best. You just have to ask yourself whether coating your face in a fine layer of powder is something you're willing to fork out a fortune for! Whilst I have no offspring or morgage to pay for, it most certainly is. Once in a while, at least!

Have you tried this product?
Can you recommend a cheaper alternative?
