A Photo a Day #59

Fountain
1/3     F22     ISO 250

Taken on a slow shutter speed I tried to captured the flowing of the water from this fountain in Trafalgar Square. I need to invest in a tripod to help with keeping the camera steady when shooting at slower shutter speeds. This was the best of the bunch.

Trafalgar

Trafalgar Square, London: I liked the collection of people hanging out on the steps of Nelson's Column.

Diamonds

Taken on the Waterloo Bridge on a stroll towards Soho on a blowy evening. If you look the other way, the view of Big Ben is a good'un.

Bubbleman
1/200     F6.3     ISO 800

A few days ago I was in London to see The Divine Comedy at the Palladium (it was amazing by the way!) Walking along the South bank, I took a picture of this man. It's a shame that the man behind him wasn't out of shot, but nevertheless, a nice action shot.

A Photo a Day #53

Muddy Path
1/4000     F1.8     ISO 800

A little walk to break up a huge pile of half term marking and a muddy path leading to a field. The green shows that Spring is on the way, but no English countryside scene would be complete without a disgusting, muddy footpath.

Another photo in which I captured some bokeh using the lovely afternoon sun lowering in the sky.

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation & Concealer, Shade 'Linen' 01: Review

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Shade 01 Linen
The concept of Clinique's Beyond Perfecting is that it is both a foundation and a concealer which offers a natural coverage. It is recommended for all skin types and is moisturising. The unusual doe-foot applicator (like a concealer or lip gloss) applies this thick, creamy product conveniently, and it comes in an array of shades. I'm going to tell you about my experience with shade 01 Linen (the lightest, pink-toned beige for fair skin). Beware: tired, naked face below!

Afternoon Light
1/1000     F22     ISO 4000

The blue sky and sunshine was a real mood-lifter today. It felt like it could almost be a Summer evening.

Stained
Although this gate may have been re-painted many times, the rusting on the metalwork shows it has been privy to many a season.

Little stream

I'm experimenting here with slow shutter speed on the water. This was a fast moving stream, but I wanted to test out my cameras ability to show the flow of the water. This something I'm hoping to get better at in time.

Gerald
1/80     F5.6     ISO 100

This lovely horse lives in a nearby field. I'm not sure who he belongs to or if he is even a boy, but I felt like the name 'Gerald' suited him. He is a lonely-looking, friendly horse and very gentle.

A candle can tell a story. The rings of wax, their patterns and depth. It's been a tough week.

Kat Von D 'Everlasting' Liquid Lipstick, Lolita II: Review

Kat Von D Lolita II
Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are one of many on the market. This particular offering promises a creamy formulation, a 'true matte finish' and 24-hour wear. Lolita II, a 'terracotta nude' appealed to me more than the original Lolita which is darker and plummier. Here's what I think after trying it out over a number of occasions:

Weathered Hearts

A photo that had to be in black and white in my opinion. The contrast of the patterns and imperfect quality of the leaves strike me as symbolic given their shape.

I think we all feel like one of these leaves sometimes.

A Photo a Day #40

Johannes
1/10     F5.6     ISO 100

Another in my mini series which takes inspiration from famous artworks. These fabulous earrings are from the Sharima Aperture collection from Stilnest. They feature an art deco inspired design with the option to wear the 'lash' motif on the back of the earring or take it off and just wear the 'eyes' as normal studs.

Whilst eagerly awaiting the delivery of these stunning earrings, I got the idea to do this shot. It took a lot of playing around to get the result I did; the head position isn't perfect, but I did achieve some of the shadows and light of the original. Studying Johannes Vermeer's painting was good fun and it made me remember how enjoyable it is to immerse yourself in paintings- something I did a lot of as an art student when I was a teenager.

After the Rain
1/125     F5.6     ISO 800

Another macro photo- I loved the colours here, so brought them out a bit further in Photoshop. The water droplets are the best I've captured with my existing photography skills. Any feedback on ways to fine tune would be much appreciated.

Little Flower Girl
1/200     F3.5     ISO 200

My mum would like this one! A minute little garden ornament shot with my macro. I'm really pleased with the quality and the colour balance I achieved to add some 'magic' to the background.

Unfurling
1/125     F3.5     ISO 200

I took this at the weekend whilst playing around with my new macro lens. It is actually quite a skill to hold still enough for perfect crispness. In the future, I may get a tripod or some kind of kit to help with this.

This beautiful flower was part of an arrangement inside a conservatory. The background blur is the garden behind. Do you notice a February theme? Colour is certainly something I'm seeking out at the moment (probably caused by the horrible bleakness I've felt this Winter). Roll on Spring!

A Photo a Day #36

1401
1/5     F18     ISO 800
I'm happy with the blur contrasting with the fixed clock face- the lens captures both a frozen moment in time and also the every swinging, ever moving pendulum. All but a touch of colour has been faded out and the contrast turned up to draw attention to the shapes and details of the piece.

1401 is the time on the clock-face, but without the colon is deliberately ambiguous.
