Beauty

Playing with colour theory when editing! My photos are less crisp than I would like due to having to reduce them for formatting them on Blogger. If anyone has any tips for me, please comment below.

Review: Mac Modern Twist Kajal Eyeliners

These mechanical, twist up style liners come in an array of colours and finishes, from black, to shimmery taupe to green. I have the shades Grey Tide, Groundbreaker, Ocean Liner, Nothing On and Polar Ice. I've owned most of them for quite some time and I use them almost daily. Here are my thoughts and swatches.

Heirloom

A photo taken in the old town streets in Hastings again today and another shot from a few years ago. This was another photo I used as one of my '104 Things to Photograph' book. The title seemed to fit this one well although it wasn't taken deliberately with that in mind. I think maybe there's a story there.

Like Clockwork

The bottom section of a clock in Milton Keynes shopping centre. I did no cropping here as the geometry of the framing was already pleasing. I wanted to take the colour out to avoid it detracting from the cogs and lines. I like that this is also a self portrait.

British Summertime

A sandy beach inside Milton Keynes shopping centre, complete with lifeguards (not in shot unfortunately); minus the sea!

Empty Lot

I took this a few years ago now in a car park in Hastings. I brought out the markings in the ground surface by turning up the contrast and turning the photo black and white. I really like this simple image. It was originally taken to fulfil one of the titles in my '104 Things to Photograph' book which is nearly full and I should really blog about soon.

Maybe it's also a good time to mention that I have had beauty blogging on my mind this August, but have not allotted time to creating posts. I have plenty of products to review and for anyone interested in this element of the blog, I will get back on it at some point. I am definitely still a keen consumer of beauty products and have a lot to share, so watch this space.

Disillusioned

I did a lot of editing work on this in Photoshop. The lighting wasn't quite there in the original photo (due to it coming from behind the statue and me not having the best expertise at balancing my F stop and shutter speed). I like the outcome colours I achieved. The finger didn't look so amusing in real life, but on editing I realised that in this photo it looks like she's giving the finger to the world!

Pause for Thought

Taken on a walk in Holly Hill Park near Fareham, the landscaping of this woodland dates back to the 1870s and it's a really fun area to explore.

A Warning

The range of primary colours in this shot pleased me and the subject matter is quite interesting. We did heed the warning in case anyone's interested. Although it would make a good photo to have taken an additional shot from the other side.

Rectangles

Another wall shot today! I edited this, mainly focusing on getting some additional contrast and clarity.

The Power Station

A view of Fawley power station from Lee-on-Solent. The fantastic mono-chromatic blue and white tones give this photo a moody vibe. The Summer evenings here are quite striking here in the South-East of the UK at the moment as it is either very windy, drizzly, or stormy, but still with some contrasting sunlight.

Fallen Plums

These bright yellow plums contrasted starkly with the pavement. We saw them on an evening stroll a few days ago. I managed to make a focal point of the middle of the shot using my portrait lens.

Madonna

This was part of a statue from the 1950s-1960s in part of a Roman Catholic chapel at Highcliffe Castle in Dorset. It survived a fire but when the building became derelict the statue fell and was decapitated. The glass eyes are really creepy.
