Kat Von D Lolita II |
Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks are one of many on the market. This particular offering promises a creamy formulation, a 'true matte finish' and 24-hour wear. Lolita II, a 'terracotta nude' appealed to me more than the original Lolita which is darker and plummier. Here's what I think after trying it out over a number of occasions:
First of all, the shade. On a pale individual like myself, it translates less of a nude and more of a muted, warm red. It's actually a pleasing, wearable red for someone like me who doesn't have the lifestyle or conviction to rock a rouge very often. On darker skintones it would certainly appear more nude.
The feel on the lips is a strength of this product as it doesn't feel sticky or chalky. Rather it feels creamy and is opaque to apply in one coat . On dry-down it is not tacky, sticky or heavy feeling. I don't feel like there's an alien parasite sucking all of the moisture out of my meagre lips. Of course, an obligatory priming of lip balm will always go a long way with this type of product. Like most liquid lipsticks, it will transfer a little, but not ridiculously so.
In terms of the '24-hour wear' claim, it falls short. If you wore it without eating, drinking or making conversation, it might indeed hold up for the majority of the day, but I'm not going to starve myself in the name of beauty. After a cup of coffee and lunch, my lips did still look rosy, but the lipstick had started to break down and wear away. It wasn't the most hideous crumbling mess I've ever seen come of a liquid lipstick après snack-time, but it didn't look great either. Unlike essentials like mascara (where I'm on a continuous quest for the perfect formulation), I can take or leave liquid lipsticks- there's no obsession to find a product that actually feels good on the lips and stays all day. I believe Kat Von D has done a good job here and it's really no hardship to re-apply after lunch.
Summing up then: a lovely universal shade, a non-drying texture, but definitely not as invincible as the claims. In the words of Meatloaf: two out of three ain't bad.
I got this for Christmas and I must admit as I haven't worn it half as much as I had planned. I'm just not sure it suits me :( it looks lovely on you though!!

Thank you! It's quite orange-toned, isn't it. Maybe if you tried it with warm-toned colours on the eyes- I was wearing an old LE Mac shade called Bamboo which is really warm and some peachy blush. I need to start wearing it more, but I'm so lazy with lipsticks!
