Blackpool in pictures (August 2015)

It's been over 15 years since I last visited Blackpool and the weather didn't stay as nice as the last time round. In fact, we walked back to the car with a 99' in the rain- such a British thing ("we will have our Summer, even if it pours down!")

The thing is, seaside towns are nostalgic for those of us who grew up taking seaside day trips in our Summer holidays. Nowadays, they appear to be somewhat frozen in time which makes them both charming and sad at the same time. Blackpool is fantastically tacky and colourful, even on a not-so-sunny Summer's day. Not much has changed in terms of the attractions, but many of the seafront hotels have failed to keep business going and have been forced to close down, become run down, or both. To give Blackpool credit, it is one of the most bustling and lively seaside towns I have visited in the last ten years and it does still manage to keep true to its reputation, but I do worry how long these quintessentially British attractions have left before they become lost in the past. Will the children of 2015 still return in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond to recapture their youth, or will these special places eventually become passé? Either way, I will always have time for the traditional day trip to the seaside.

    1. I felt a little sorry for them on the drizzly beach, but I couldn't resist getting a picture.
